Choosing Dr. Atwood For Breast Augmentation
Why Women Choose Dr. Atwood for Breast Augmentation
Over the past couple of years we have been receiving an ever increasing number of phone calls from women who have had surgery elsewhere and are unhappy with their results and now want Dr. Atwood to correct their surgical complications. The reasons they give for going somewhere else are usually that they did not want to wait to see Dr. Atwood since he books appointments further into the future than some others in our area, and that they could have surgery somewhere else “cheaper”. We are repeatedly told “I wish I had just had Dr. Atwood do my surgery in the first place. I just didn’t think there was really any difference. Now I know better and am going to wind up spending more money to have 2 surgeries.”
Minimal Complication Rate
- Infection – has never had an infection in a breast augmentation
- Post-op Bleeding – Has had 2 patients develop post-op bleeding after breast augmentation out of the thousands he has done over the 26 years he has been doing plastic surgery.
- Capsular Contracture – We asked 20 consecutive patients who had silicone gel implants for breast augmentation to come back when 1 year post-op to see how many had developed capsular contracture. None of them had.
- We will take the time to teach you what you can do to help prevent the development of capsular contracture over time. There are specific things you can do.
- Implant Leakage – Very rare in patients that we put implants in. This is most likely due to the lack of capsular contracture in our patients. We do know that women with capsular contracture are at much higher risk for implant leakage due to “crease fold failure”.
- Less Risk of Re-operation – less chance of complications means fewer re-operations.

You will not be rushed through your consultation
- You may expect to be treated with Respect.
- Dr. Atwood will listen to your concerns and goals and will answer all your questions.
- We believe establishing effective communication from the beginning is crucial to accomplishing what the patient desires.
- He will give you an honest assessment of whether or not your goals are actually possible. Sometimes patients want to be a bigger cup size than their skin can accommodate and still have a pretty shape. In those cases he tells them if putting in that size implant will make the nipples point down or give an unnatural shape.
- He has in the past and will continue to decline to do a surgery that he feels is not in the best interest of the patient. Honesty should never be compromised.
- Dr. Atwood will explain how the procedure is done and the associated risks.
No pressure to schedule surgery
- It is our responsibility to inform you about the breast augmentation procedure as well as the types of implants and the pros and cons of each. We will supply you with written information as well.
- You should take all the time you need to think about this so your decision is one you can feel good about long term.
- If you don’t want to make a decision at the time of your consultation then you may call back to schedule when you are comfortable to do so.
Safety
- Dr. Atwood is a perfectionist, which is a very good quality to have in a surgeon.
- He will not hurry through a surgery or “finish up quickly” because the estimated amount of time has passed.
