A Tummy Tuck Tailored To Your Needs

For patients concerned about excess fat or skin in their midsection, an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, can help you achieve lean, toned contours. Dr. H. Daniel Atwood in Fayetteville, AR, can tailor your surgery according to your areas of concern and desired results.

Candidacy

A tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure. Rather, it is a way to address lax skin and fat deposits that will not respond to diet or exercise. Many patients elect to undergo a tummy tuck following massive weight loss or pregnancy. As with any cosmetic surgery, candidates should be in good overall health.

If you are a smoker considering a tummy tuck, we recommend quitting for three to six weeks prior to the procedure. Smoking can negatively affect your ability to heal and increase the risk of complications following your surgery. For the best results, patients should plan to stop smoking permanently. Women who are planning on becoming pregnant again should also postpone a tummy tuck to avoid reversing the effects of their procedure.

Types of Tummy Tuck

Dr. Atwood and his team understand that no two bodies are the same, and will determine the extent of your tummy tuck depending on your areas of concern and desired outcomes. In order to provide fully customized results, we offer different types of abdominoplasty:

Traditional

Dr. Atwood will place an incision from hip to hip and around your navel. Depending on the patient, we can include syringe-assisted liposuction as a part of your tummy tuck.

Mini or Partial

For patients who only want to address moderate concerns in their lower abdomen, a mini tummy tuck can offer benefits using only one incision.

Extended

In addition to removing fat from the abdominal area, an extended tummy tuck involves the removal of excess fat deposits from the flanks, or love handles. Although this incision extends beyond the hips to allow Dr. Atwood to access a larger area, he uses a strategic technique to ensure that your scars are minimally visible even in a bathing suit.

Surgical Procedure

For your surgery, you will be placed under general anesthesia by our anesthesiologist. Depending on the extent of your tummy tuck, the surgery can take anywhere from two to five hours. After creating the necessary incisions, Dr. Atwood will remove excess fatty tissue and tighten the abdominal muscles to give you a more toned, refined appearance. Before closing the incisions, Dr. Atwood will trim loose, excess skin and tighten the remaining skin to create a flat midsection.
