Preparing for Surgery
We recommend that you quit smoking for six weeks prior to your surgery. In order to maintain the best results, you should ideally break the habit for good. The Surgery
On the day of your surgery, a licensed anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia to ensure your comfort during your procedure.
Next, Dr. Atwood will strategically place your incisions for minimal, low-visibility scarring. In most cases, Dr. Atwood recommends placing your implants under the pectoral muscle as opposed to under the skin to help reduce the risk of rippling in the upper region of the breast following augmentation. This technique, combined with the careful steps that Dr. Atwood takes during surgery, has helped his practice maintain an extremely low rate of capsular contracture and other complications.
Your surgery will take approximately one to two hours. Once Dr. Atwood has placed your silicone or saline implants, he will suture the incisions.
Preparing for a Healthy Recovery
Dr. Atwood recommends a combination of pain medication, arm exercises, and arnica to reduce the amount of pain and swelling that you experience following your surgery. Patients should also abstain from strenuous physical activity for a period following surgery to avoid injury and ensure optimal results.
